On-Site X-Ray Services at AFC Urgent Care

We provide on-site digital X-ray services for bones, joints, and chest imaging. During your urgent care X-ray visit, a provider will examine you, take your images, and review the results with you, so you can get clear answers and a treatment plan all in one place.

While we handle most common injuries, we don't perform MRI or CT scans. If more advanced imaging such as a CT scan or MRI is recommended, we'll tell you during your visit and recommend follow-up with a specialist.

If you believe you are experiencing a medical emergency, go directly to the emergency room. You can check our guide below for a list of severe symptoms and injuries best treated at an ER.

Why AFC

When you're hurt, you want answers the same day rather than a second appointment somewhere else. Here's what you get with an X-ray at AFC.

Imaging on Site

Digital X-ray in the building. No second appointment and no imaging center referral.

Results Read the Same Visit

A provider reviews your images with you and explains what they show before you leave.

Open Daily

Extended hours, evenings, and weekends. No appointment or referral needed.

Low-Dose Imaging for Children

Digital X-rays at the lowest dose that produces a usable image.

What Can We X-Ray?

Our on-site digital X-ray covers most common injuries and chest conditions we see in urgent care, including:

Broken Bones & Fractures

Injuries in Which a Broken Bone Is Suspected

Dislocation

Chest & Pneumonia Conditions

Sports Injuries

Foreign Objects

Urgent Care X-Ray vs. the Emergency Room

Not every injury needs an emergency room. If you're deciding where to go, here's how the two compare, and when the ER is the right call.

AFC Urgent Care Emergency Room
Typical wait Short. Walk in or book a time Long. Emergencies are seen first
What happens Examined, imaged, and read in one visit Imaged, then admitted, treated, or discharged
Best for Fractures, sprains, sports injuries, chest conditions True emergencies and major trauma

Go to the emergency room if:

  • Bone is visible through the skin, or a limb appears bent, or out of shape
  • Uncontrolled bleeding
  • You have a head injury and are taking blood thinners, or the injury is associated with confusion, persistent amnesia, vomiting, loss of consciousness, seizure, or severe headache
  • You have chest pain or trouble breathing
  • The limb below the injury is numb, cold, or pale

If you notice any of these severe symptoms, go directly to the emergency room. Your health and safety come first, and we always want to make sure you get the exact level of care you need.

What to Expect From an Urgent Care X-Ray

  1. Check In

Walk in or book online. Tell us where it hurts and how it happened.

  2. Provider Exam

A provider examines the injury and decides which X-ray images are needed.

  3. Imaging on Site

The on-site digital X-ray imaging process takes about 15 minutes to complete.

  4. Read the Same Visit

Your provider reviews the images with you and explains what they show.

  5. Treatment Plan or Follow-Up

You leave knowing what the images showed, what to do next, and with recommended orthopedic follow-up if necessary.

X-Ray Safety and Preparation

  • Remove jewelry, watches, and anything metal near the injury
  • Wear comfortable clothing without zippers or metal fastenings, if you have time to change
  • Bring your photo ID and your insurance card
  • Note how the injury happened and when
  • Tell us if you are or might be pregnant

Imaging for Children

Digital X-ray uses a low dose of radiation, and we use the lowest setting that still produces a usable image. For children, we size the exposure to the child.

X-Rays During Pregnancy

Tell us if you are or might be pregnant, and we will talk through the options before imaging anything.

Frequently Asked Questions About X-Rays

Is an X-ray safe?

Yes. Digital X-ray imaging uses a low dose of radiation, and we use the lowest setting that produces a usable image. Tell us if you are or might be pregnant, and your provider will talk through the options with you.

Do I need a referral for an urgent care X-ray?

No, you do not need a referral or appointment to get an X-ray at AFC. Walk in or book online, and a provider decides which images you need during the visit.

How long does an X-ray take?

The X-ray itself takes about 15 minutes. Most people are examined, imaged, and given their results in a single visit.

Can you X-ray children?

Yes. We size the exposure to the child and use the lowest dose that produces a usable image.

How is an X-ray different from an MRI or CT?

X-ray is best for bones and chest imaging. MRI and CT scans show soft tissue and detail that an X-ray cannot. We do X-rays on site, and if either is recommended we'll tell you and recommend follow-up with a specialist. Please visit our Health Library for more information.
